Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) with/without adnexectomy (removal of the ovaries)

During a hysterectomy, all or part of the uterus is removed. This can be done through the vagina (vaginally), laparoscopically (through a laparoscopy), or through an abdominal incision. In addition, a decision must be made whether the ovary and fallopian tubes should also be removed. The decision of the surgical way is decided individually depending on the diagnosis, size of the uterus and others.

Depending on the type of surgery, an inpatient stay of 4-5 days must be expected.

Reasons for uterus removal are:

  • Myomas
  • vaginal and / or uterine prolapse
  • very heavy or painful menstrual bleeding
  • endometriosis
  • cancers of the uterus, cervix or ovaries
